The Meteor Lands at Dallas Urby
The Meteor is ideally placed in the heart of the Dallas Design District and conveniently located along the popular running and biking Katy and Trinity Strand Trails. Offering a unique mix of an all-day café, wine bar, restaurant, and bike shop, it serves as the connecting piece between Dallas Urby’s residential towers. The Meteor will now serve as a welcoming hangout to Urby residents, bicyclists, and runners looking to re-fuel after a scenic workout.
The Meteor offers an expansive selection of natural wine, craft beer, specialty coffee, house-made baked goods, and ingredient-driven foods – including breakfast tacos, burgers, and their famous sourdough pizza. While Meteors’ bike shop offers a boutique retail experience specializing in expert service with a carefully vetted selection of bikes, apparel, and accessories. This unique combination of a café, wine bar, and bicycle shop, makes it a one-of-a-kind experience and a must try destination in the Dallas Design District.
The interior design of The Meteor was a collaboration between noted designer Shawn Hausman and Meteor’s team. Immediately noticeable throughout is well-placed eclectic and cozy furniture, complimented by unexpected color palettes that create a timeless look and fresh feel. The Meteor also features a beautiful combined coffee and liquor bar as well as custom poured terrazzo tile floors, both of which pay homage to café tradition.
Moving into the Salon, guests will be greeted with inviting leather sofas and solid marble coffee tables that provide more of a laid-back dining experience. Low lit, romantic lighting also engulfs this space, adding to the cozy atmosphere. It’s hard to not feel high class in this area of The Meteor, especially while sipping the spirit of your choice.
While exiting the Salon, guests will enter into the Dining Room which provides high-end diner vibes. Luxurious banquets and wood framed partitions line the side and middle of this room, allowing guests to relax in style. Classic café tables are placed in front of large windows, letting light fill the area as diners converse. Vibrant green checkered floors can also be found throughout this area, adding a fun splash of color to the Dining Room.
Looking to the exterior of The Meteor, Hausman sought to design a building that could appear as though it was already there. As inspiration, the street facing facade is modeled after baked enamel paneling from the facades of local historic cinemas and diners. Visually, it exudes historical gravitas as it sits between both of Urby’s striking, modern towers.
Furthermore, Hausman’s inspiration for the pattern work on the outer facade was based on Otto Wagner’s Austrian Postal Savings Bank in Vienna, a subtle nod to the birthplace of modern café culture. Oozing with history, the glass blocks that form the window on the right side of The Meteor were produced by La Rochere, France’s oldest private factory dating way back to 1475. While the wall-mounted clock around the corner was inspired by Arne Jaobsen’s 1930s petrol station, just outside of Copenhagen. The culmination of these design elements results in old-world elegance that is surely felt throughout Meteor.

Every Urby location is known for integrating a café into their lobby, and Dallas Urby continues this theme with the opening of The Meteor. Naturally, Urby CEO David Barry was drawn to the community- driven approach of The Meteor’s dynamic concept. “We're excited to bring this fresh concept to Dallas. The Meteor’s bike shop is a great resource for cyclists along the Katy and Trinity Strand trails. While the wine shop and all day-café will provide additional convenience and delicious options for the community,” said Barry.
The Meteor Café is now open and ready to serve both residents at Dallas Urby and members of the Dallas Design District community.
